Granite Sports Places To Hike

Mickelson:

Trek the trail where the legends of the Black Hills may have once crossed. The Mickelson Trail has numerous trailheads along the more than 100 mile path. With terrain that is friendly for hikers of all ages and abilities you will mingle among the Ponderosa Pines while exploring the landscapes of the beautiful Black Hills.

Custer State Park & Centennial Trails:

Mountain biking, hiking and horseback trails abound throughout Custer State Park. Trails range from "Easy" trails along generally level ground to "Moderate" trails along steep slopes and rocky areas to "Strenuous" trails along very steep paths and rocky terrain.

Bear Butte State Park:

Gain more than 1000 feet in elevation as you ascend the Mato Paha or Bear Mountain as the Lakota dubbed this geological formation. Formed millions of years ago, Bear Butte is still considered sacred by many American Indian tribes who continue to hold religious ceremonies in the area. Please be respectful of the worshippers as you hike toward the summit.

Roughlock Falls Nature Area:

Observe the rare American Dipper walking and swimming underwater in this outdoor wonder. Located in Spearfish Canyon this area has recently improved accessibility and viewing areas. Limited to day use only, the limestone cliffs and beautiful waterfall is a Black Hills must see.
